Bad engine cuts off while driving. Burn excessive oil and water. Motor makes loud noises. Brakes have to be changed every 2 months. Grinding noises when you take your feet of the gas , sounds like a 18 wheeler breaking down to stop. Now the engine wont turn over. Replaced sensors and timing but still not cranking. So now it needs a motor. Dashboard is cracked up so bad you can see inside to airbag. Which sometimes gets extremely hot.

Dashboard Crack problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe 5
I was driving at about 45 mph and heard a rattle coming from my dashboard. The vent near the windshield was visibly vibrating. I then noticed a crack extending from the corner of the airbag cover to the vent. The dealer said that this happens on some models/year. This is my third Tahoe in over 20 years and it hasnt happened before. The vibration is going to make the crack worse and the dashboard will start to break apart. I believe that the airbag compartment is also at risk.

Dash cracking: I own a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe ltz. The dash has cracked twice on this vehicle. The 1st time it was under warranty. The 2nd time it occurred the dash cracked in two places. This cost me more than $1000. Once it cracked it started making a rattling noise as I went down the road. After reviewing all the complaints about this same problem, I fail to understand why a recall was not ordered by the government in regard to this problem. This is a problem reported by thousands of other people who have purchased a Chevrolet Tahoe or suburban. These are not cheap vehicles to purchase but are obviously made with cheap, defective materials.
Dashboard Crack problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe 7
Low mileage vehicle, stored in a garage at work and at home. Dashboard cracked at passenger side airbag. Serious safety issue as plastic parts from broken dashboard can become deadly missiles during airbag deployment and potentially harm or cause death to passenger (my child). Spent nearly $600 for a dashboard assembly that should have never required replacing.
Dashboard Crack problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe 8
Dashboard cracks due to poor quality material and poor design. Once cracked, the dashboard presents a safety hazard. If the airbag were to deploy, the force of the deployment against the already cracked dashboard could send sharp fragments of the dashboard into passengers.

Dashboard Crack problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe 11
I came out of my house and got in my truck (2007 Chevrolet Tahoe ltz) yesterday morning (1/15/2019). After I started my truck I heard strange noises, as if something was popping/cracking. I looked around inside my truck but didnt really notice anything because I was looking in the rear, left and right out the windows. I opened the sunroof cover & didnt notice anything, until I looked down and seen two separate cracks on top of my dashboard. One long crack about 3 or 4 inches long on top of my dashboard, overtop of my gauges and another crack on the passenger side by the airbag on top of the dashboard about 1 inch and a half long. I dont know how my dashboard can just crack on its own, but I do know that it was not there days before because I had my truck detailed inside/out after being fully painted. I checked online didnt see any recalls from gm for cracked dashboards on 2007 Chevrolet Tahoes but I do see a lot of random complaints were numerous people had the same issue on various of gm trucks from 2007-2014.
Dashboard Crack problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe 12
Dashboard cracking can result in structural integrity issues that can result in the creation of projectiles in the instance of a collision, airbags being unable to properly deploy, etc. Almost all gm vehicles in this model year range have this issue; is of widespread concern. I just purchased this car and am worried that if I were ever to be in an accident, my safety would be jeopardized.

Dashboard Crack problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe 14
I am very careful and take good care of my vehicles, but this one has a crack in the dash that is getting bigger and bigger. From talking with a few people that own the same model they have had the same issue. It seems to be a defect from gm. I have not hit any major pot holes or applied any pressure what so ever to the dash. Now it's so bad that it rattles when driving down the road. This is unacceptable especially with gm not taking responsibility for their error.

Dashboard Crack problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe 25
The dashboard is cracking right above the steering wheel. I do not know it the crack starting while in motion or stationary. I know it happened in may 2018. It is cracking more everyday. This is my dream car and I think it's a shame to pay this kind ot money for such a expensive car and it starts falling apart. My husband and I are nothing but chevy buyers we have owned a number of blazers and Tahoe and have never had this problem . My husband's Tahoe is a 2004 . Looks great. Also on the 2013 Tahoe the door pull is broke and the dealer said I had to buy the hold door panel thst would be over $500. I only need the the pull handle not the entire door panel. This is nonsense. Is Chevrolet getting cheap on their quallty . This will make be look into other vehicles (Ford, Toyota, Jeep , etc. ## VIN passed ## chevy Tahoe 2013 ##.

What Causes a Dashboard to Crack?
Most people attribute the dashboard cracks found in the Tahoe to a manufacturer’s defect. A few think that over-tightening of the bolts is the culprit, and others think it’s just because GM used cheap plastic. There was actually a class action lawsuit against GM, but nothing came out of it except a rumor that some GM dealerships are offering to cover half of the dashboard repair costs.
If you’re a Tahoe owner experiencing this problem, you might be better off just fixing this by yourself. It’s an easy job that will take an hour or two. In a nutshell, you have to remove the dashboard and then make surface repairs by sealing the crack shut.
This solution only works on small cracks, though. For bigger cracks, you're better off replacing the entire dashboard.
We’re going to show you how to remove the dashboard from your Tahoe and fix it in 5 steps:
1. Remove the Dashboard
A dashboard crack on the driver’s side in a 2007 Tahoe, via Chevrolet Forum member bamafutbal
This step requires disconnecting a lot of wires and unscrewing a lot of bolts. It’s much easier with the right tools, like a plastic auto interior trim tool kit that allows you to remove all of the trim without breaking or scratching anything.
This comprehensive YouTube tutorial offers great instructions on removing the dashboard in a Tahoe. Here's a quick list of steps:
- Remove the panel from the driver’s end of the dashboard.
- Unscrew the two bolts at the top.
- Go under the dashboard on the driver’s side and unscrew the three bolts there, too.
- Remove the bottom part of the dashboard, underneath the steering wheel. At this point, ensure that the car is turned off.
- Unscrew the two bolts on each side of the steering wheel.
- Remove the small plastic panel on the frame above the driver’s seat. Unscrew the bolt underneath.
- Remove the entire panel over the frame and unplug the wiring at the bottom.
- Unscrew the two bolts at the top of the odometer control panel.
- Remove the upper center part of the dashboard (above the controls in the center console). Unscrew all the bolts and unplug the wires underneath.
- Remove the odometer control panel and all of the control panels in the center console.
- Remove the panels around the glove compartment and unscrew the bolts underneath.
- Remove the panel over the passenger airbag and unscrew the bolts underneath.
- Remove the small plastic panels on the frame above the passenger’s seat. Unscrew the bolts underneath.
- Remove the entire panel over the frame and unplug the wiring at the bottom.
- Remove the panel right next to the windshield and unplug all of the wires underneath. Unscrew all of the bolts, too.
- Finally, remove the entire dashboard.
You may want to consider replacing a few parts under the dashboard while you have it off. A few suggestions:
- Auto lamp sensor, Part No. 15837063
- HVAC control panel, Part No. 22879021
- Passenger air bag, Part No. 22744317
2. Close the Cracks With a Hot Plastic Staple Gun
First, ensure that the hot staple gun you have can be used on plastic. Turn the dashboard over and use the hot staple gun to melt the staples across the crack. The staples should be positioned about half an inch apart. The point of this step is to close up the crack. However, this is not enough to keep the crack closed, so you’ll need to actually seal it up.
3. Lay a Few Pieces of Metal Wire Across the Crack
You want to grab some galvanized steel wire or something similar, as long as it’s strong enough to hold the crack together. Cut the wire into 5” pieces and lay them perpendicularly across the crack. You want them to be about half an inch apart. Don’t lay any of them directly above the staples.
4. Cover the Metal Wire With Epoxy Adhesive
Grab some epoxy adhesive and generously cover the crack, the staples, and the wires with it. Ensure that you get as much of it as possible on the dashboard itself.
5. Let it Dry and Then Put the Dashboard Back On
Give the epoxy 24 to 48 hours to dry. At this point, the crack should be barely visible and that area should be sturdier than ever.
Bonus Step: Report This Issue to NHTSA
Just because the class action lawsuit didn’t work out doesn’t mean that this is a lost cause. The more NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) hears about this, the more likely they’ll intervene. Head over to Safercar.gov and file a complaint. They take all complaints seriously, so it’s well worth your time.
